CT Scanning

Our GE 128 slice Helical CT Scanner uses unparalleled dose reduction techniques while offering outstanding resolution with its advanced detector array. This also allows faster scan times for patients.

We are able to perform CT angiography studies reducing the need for invasive conventional angiography in many cases.

A CT scan (Computed tomography) is an imaging modality that uses a rotating X-ray tube and detector to accurately image the human body with exquisite detail. CT originally started as CAT scans (Computed Axial Tomography) whereby images were only taken in the axial plane. Modern CT scanners however, have the ability for images to be reconstructed into any plane (angle) as well as sophisticated 3D imaging.

Expect anywhere from between 10 to 30 minutes depending on the area of the body that is imaged, however the majority of this time is for patient preparation and positioning. In fact the actual "scan" can take as little as 10 seconds to acquire!

You may be required to change into a gown for the appointment. Also, some CT scans require an injection of contrast medium for the scan, which will require you to be well hydrated as well as 4 hours of fasting prior to your appointment. If you are a diabetic or have decreased renal function, you may be required to have a blood test prior to your scan. Our friendly staff will inform you of any preparation needed when booking your appointment.

If you are over the age of 50 years old you will need to see your GP and have had a recent blood test prior to having a CT Scan.
