Bulk Billing Fees and Charges
Bulk Billing, Fees and Charges
North Queensland X-ray Services is primarily a bulk billing facility. We believe a high standard of diagnostic imaging should be available to all residents of Queensland. Our mission statement is ‘to strive to offer our services to everybody in a timely manner’.
All HIC eligible examinations are rebateable at our facility with the exemption of certain MRI services. If the patient has a referral from a specialist or is under 16 years of age and has a referral from a GP then the MRI examination can be bulk billed. However, some exceptions do apply. Please check with NQ X-ray reception when making a booking. This MRI exemption will change in time as the federal government changes its policy toward bulk billing MRI services and we will keep you informed should this change.
We also offer services to all DVA patients with no out of pocket expense. NQ X-ray is an accredited Workcover facility. Workcover cases are welcome provided we have a valid workcover claim number.
While nearly all services provided are bulk-billed, please liaise with our friendly administration staff to confirm regarding the service required.* #
If you are an overseas visitor or not eligible for Medicare, fees and charges will apply. Please contact the practice nearest you for prices.
*Excludes Bone Densitometry (DEXA) scans as eligibility for this procedure is tightly controlled by Medicare. When presenting for this procedure, you may be asked to pay an out-of-pocket fee at the time of your appointment after completing an assessment to determine your eligibility for bulk billing by Medicare or Veterans Affairs. This amount is fully rebateable for patients who are eligible for the procedure. Please liaise with our friendly administration staff to discuss further.
# If you are a Reciprocal Health Care Card holder from the UK, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, Malta or Italy, you are eligible for bulk billing on urgent General X-ray procedures only. If referred for a CT or Ultrasound examination, you will be charged the relevant fee at the time of your appointment. You must then lodge a claim with Medicare to receive your service rebate if eligible. Anyone travelling on a student visa is ineligible for assistance through Medicare, regardless of their country of origin. Please discuss this with your doctor prior to contacting North Queensland X-ray Services.
